An 18th Birthday Between Sky and Sea: Ideas to Turn a Dinner into a Journey
A birthday inspired by dreams of flight, with personalized details, ocean hues, and a story-telling design.
We recently had the pleasure of curating every detail of an intimate yet truly special 18th birthday. From the theme and decorations to the gifts for guests, we transformed an idea into a fully personalized experience, inspired by dreams, freedom, and new beginnings: Entre Ciel et Mer (Between Sky and Sea). The concept was born thinking of the birthday girl’s future, as she has just started her journey to becoming a pilot. Everything was designed around this dream, using a palette of whites, light blues, deep blues, and silver, and hosting the party in a venue overlooking the harbor – where sky and sea truly meet.
📍 The birthday dinner took place at Palo Santo in Ventimiglia, a perfect setting with harbor views, excellent cuisine, and a professional staff that made the evening even more special.
A SETTING THAT CELEBRATES EVERY GUEST
The table decor was designed as a shared journey. Balancing natural elements with thematic details, all while maintaining a minimal style:
CENTERPIECES
We chose white roses and fresh flowers, arranged in a main vase and two smaller jars. These were paired with three jars filled with pebbles, seashells, and a candle each, evoking the sea in a delicate and poetic way.
A DETAIL THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Along the table, we scattered small illustrated cardboard circles designed like passport stamps, each featuring the guests’ country of origin. A charming detail that delighted everyone – many even took them home as keepsakes.
PLACE CARDS
Each guest found a personalized pouch at their seat, featuring a themed name tag and a passport-style greeting card inside.
DRESS CODE
The dress code completed the visual effect: everyone wore shades of sky and sea, creating a harmonious palette that made the table even more enchanting.
PERSONALIZED POUCHES: THE PERFECT GIFT THAT TELLS A STORY
THE POUCHES
These custom sustainable pouches were first used as place cards and then became unique, versatile gifts for each guest. The design, created by someone close to the birthday girl and produced by Safiraw Designs, is simple yet impactful: a blue print with the words “Keep in touch” and a small stylized airplane, echoing the event’s theme. An elegant invitation to stay connected after the symbolic flight of the 18th birthday.
THE PASSPORTS
Inside each pouch, we added a passport-style card with a photo of the birthday girl alongside the recipient, accompanied by a thank-you message. Each passport was handmade and printed on thick paper to give the feel of a true travel keepsake.

INTERACTIVE CORNERS AND DETAILS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE
To make the experience even more immersive, we designed decorative details and thematic corners that let imaginations soar (literally!):
CHECK-IN CORNER
A Check-in corner with a small table where guests could leave messages and drawings in a signed album. This later became a cherished keepsake for the birthday girl, also featuring Polaroid snapshots from the evening.
PHOTO BACKDROP
A creative photobooth with a balloon cascade in the palette’s shades and pilot/hostess-themed props for memorable photos, including a must-have giant inflatable airplane.
THE CAKE
The cake had its own personalized touch! We decorated a stunning and original Brownie Cake with three handmade airplanes on sticks, perfectly matching the Entre Ciel et Mer theme.
REACTIONS, EMOTIONS, AND LITTLE TOUCHES THAT MAKE A LASTING IMPRESSION
What made the party truly special were the guests’ reactions: each detail was discovered with delight – some were surprised to find their country among the stamps, others were moved opening their personalized pouch, and many left heartfelt notes in the album. The birthday girl was visibly happy, thrilled to see how every detail spoke about her and her dream, while celebrating with everyone present.
